How should we ensure the Federal Reserve remains independent and credible in its decisions?

In his first public remarks since the conclusion of his time as Federal Reserve chair, Jerome Powell has issued a blunt warning that the central bank is undergoing a "stress test" and its credibility is on the line. The big picture: While Powell's remarks Sunday evening, in accepting the John F. Kennedy "Profiles in Courage" award, do not mention the Trump administration's attempts to undermine Fed independence specifically, the meaning of his words is plain. Those include a criminal investigation of the Fed's over-budget building renovation and the attempted firing of governor Lisa Cook.Powell framed attempts to weaken the Fed's independence from politics as endangering an institution that is crucial in sustaining American greatness. State of play: Powell's term as Fed chair ended May 15, but he is remaining in place indefinitely as one of seven Fed governors pending resolution of the president's threats to Fed independence, denying President Trump a vacancy on the powerful board. That credibility enables the Fed to support a strong and stable economy for the benefit of American families and businesses. Our credibility has been built and s

What should the US and Iran do to find a peaceful solution instead of considering war?

The United States warned on Saturday it was "more than capable" of resuming war with Iran after President Donald Trump said any peace deal must adhere to his red lines, including Tehran never being able to develop nuclear weapons. The White House had signalled Trump was close to a decision on an initial deal after weeks of mixed signals in tenuous negotiations, though Tehran denied there was a final agreement on ending the Middle East conflict that has jolted the global economy

How can different countries work together to address tensions related to actions in Gaza?

May 24 (Reuters) - The foreign ministers of the Group of Eight Arab-Islamic states on Sunday strongly condemned the actions of far-right Israeli police minister Itamar Ben-Gvir towards participants in the Gaza-bound flotilla while they were in Israeli detention. Governments have expressed outrage after Ben-Gvir posted a video in which he taunted activists who were pinned to the ground. Some of the detainees, who had intended to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza, later alleged that they were physically assaulted in detention, which Israel's prison service denied
