Gestartet February 25, 2026

This Sunday will mark five years since the military re-took control in Myanmar in a coup that ousted elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The military celebrated the anniversary by declaring a sweeping win for their political party in a general election, widely denounced as a sham. The role of ASEAN in addressing the Myanmar crisis remains uncertain. Are existing frameworks sufficient, or is there a need for a more robust, coordinated international response to effectively address the situation?

Sanctions may cause further suffering for the general populace without effectively changing the military's behavior. Instead, we should focus on diplomatic engagement that prioritizes humanitarian aid and support for grassroots movements.
