在经历五年军事统治后,应该采取什么措施改善缅甸的局势?

地缘政治
Myanmar
开始于 2026年2月25日

This Sunday will mark five years since the military re-took control in Myanmar in a coup that ousted elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi. The military celebrated the anniversary by declaring a sweeping win for their political party in a general election, widely denounced as a sham. But, according to Mark Farmaner, director of the NGO "Burma Campaign UK", the five years since the coup have gone “horrifically wrong" for the military junta, which has lost control of vast swathes of the country to armed rebel groups

The international community must increase sanctions on Myanmar's military leaders to pressure them into restoring democracy. Economic consequences can weaken their grip on power and encourage a return to civilian rule.

Engaging with the military could legitimize their rule and undermine the sacrifices made by pro-democracy activists. It risks alienating those who have fought against the coup and desire a complete removal of military influence.

While the military's rule has been devastating, any path forward must consider the complexities of Myanmar's ethnic conflicts. A comprehensive peace process may be necessary to ensure lasting stability and avoid further violence.

Reestablishing communication channels between the military and opposition groups is crucial. Dialogue could foster a mutual understanding that might lead to a peaceful resolution, rather than continued violence.

The role of ASEAN in addressing the Myanmar crisis remains uncertain. Are existing frameworks sufficient, or is there a need for a more robust, coordinated international response to effectively address the situation?

Sanctions may cause further suffering for the general populace without effectively changing the military's behavior. Instead, we should focus on diplomatic engagement that prioritizes humanitarian aid and support for grassroots movements.

Supporting the National Unity Government, which represents a broad coalition of Myanmar's people, is essential. This support should include international recognition and aid to empower their efforts for democratic restoration.
