While open data can enhance research, the recent UK Biobank breach starkly illustrates the risks to personal privacy. Genomic data is uniquely identifiable and sensitive; therefore, we must prioritize strong regulations and ethical standards over unrestricted access to data to protect individuals from potential misuse.
